The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
